Measuring the size and growth of Travel & Tourism, its contribution to economies and society, and its impact on the environment, is a vital element underpinning WTTC's work. Every year, in collaboration with Oxford Economics, WTTC publishes unique, robust data that shows the sector’s total contribution and impact across most of the world’s economies.
Travel & Tourism Economic Impact Research (EIR) Data
WTTC produces reports and factsheets annually on the economic and employment impact of Travel & Tourism for 184 countries/economies and 28 geographic and economic regions across the world. These reports, in collaboration with Oxford Economics, are a vital tool in helping us to equip public and private sector bodies with hard evidence of the huge value Travel & Tourism brings to the economy so that their policymaking and investment decisions support our sector.
The EIR showcases the sector’s absolute and relative contribution to GDP and employment as well as its performance on key metrics such as capital investment, leisure and business spending, domestic and international visitor spending.

Environmental and Social Research (ESR) Data
Managing sustainable Travel & Tourism relies on robust data. So WTTC has expanded its economic impact reporting to include the Environmental and Social Research (ESR) of Travel & Tourism across 185 economies – both direct impacts and across its value chain – in conjunction with Oxford Economics. The ESR covers a wide range of indicators including greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), water use, energy use and composition, pollutants, resource extraction, as well as the gender, age and wage profiles of Travel & Tourism employment.
